The Principal

Ben Timmons

Director & Principal Fire Protection Designer

With over 19 years of hands-on experience spanning contractor and consultant environments, Ben founded BRT Fire Design and Consulting to deliver precision-engineered fire protection design that eliminates costly rework before it ever reaches site.

His dual-perspective career — working directly with installation crews and as a design consultant — gives him an unmatched understanding of how designs translate to real-world construction. That means fewer RFIs, cleaner shop drawings, and fire systems that are compliant, constructible, and cost-effective from day one.

Ben holds a QBCC licence, FPAS FSD accreditation, and NSW Regulated Design registration, and is qualified to design across all fire protection systems for Class 2–9 buildings. He works across Queensland, New South Wales, and Western Australia on projects ranging from 500m² fitouts through to 50,000m² commercial and industrial developments.

A committed continuous learner, Ben maintains annual CPD requirements to stay current with evolving Australian Standards and the National Construction Code — ensuring every project is designed to the latest compliance requirements.

Experience That Matters

Our approach is built on setting a National Construction Code aligned fire strategy from the start — locking in hazard classification, water supply strategy, adequate spatial allowances, and access/maintenance requirements early in the design process.

By coordinating in BIM and enforcing hold points and shop-drawing reviews, we eliminate classic redesign traps: non-compliant boosters, undersized pump rooms, unreachable valves, ceiling/soffit conflicts, and hydraulic shortfalls.
